Frequently Asked Questions

A quiet briefing before you ever put a boot in the stirrup: riding suitability, trail practice, safety, bookings, accommodation and the practical details that help guests arrive prepared.

Frequently Asked Questions

The questions we are asked most often.

These answers support informed enquiry. Suitability, route decisions and final arrangements are still reviewed around rider experience, horse welfare, weather and ground conditions.

Riding and experience

Suitability, pace and what the trails actually feel like.

I am not an advanced rider. Is Vonfidel Ranch still for me?

Yes. We are a trail-first, trust-led operation, not a show yard. Most guests are thinking riders who value balance, softness and time in the saddle. We match riders carefully to horses and terrain.

What kind of riding do you actually do on the trails?

Expect forward, thinking trail horses, not nose-to-tail rides. We move through jungle, estate tracks, village paths and open terrain. Pace and duration are dictated by horse, rider and ground conditions.

How long are the rides and how many days should I plan for?

Most rides run between 1.5 and 3 hours. For riding holidays, we typically recommend 3 to 7 days so both rider and horses settle into a rhythm.

Safety and welfare

How route decisions, support and welfare-led riding are handled.

What safety measures are in place on the trails?

Small groups, experienced leaders and terrain-aware pacing are standard.

Each route is planned in advance, with trail reconnaissance carried out before rides and routes mapped and tracked as part of our operating practice.

During rides, a support team remains on standby, carrying first-aid equipment and maintaining radio contact with the lead riding party. This allows us to monitor conditions, adjust pace or routing where necessary, and respond quickly should the situation require it.

Helmets are required where appropriate, and we adjust continuously to what we see under saddle, not what was imagined.

Bookings and logistics

How to request dates, ride as a non-resident guest and understand accommodation.

How do I request dates and confirm a booking?

Please complete our Riding Holiday Reservation Form, where you can indicate your preferred dates, number of riders and include a brief note on your riding experience.

Once submitted, our reservations team will review availability and suitability and get back to you with confirmation and next steps.

Can I join a riding holiday if I am staying outside the ranch?

Yes. Guests staying off-site can ride with us through our non-resident riding pathway, structured as curated trail rides rather than residential riding holidays.

Use the Trail Ride Reservation Form.

Do you offer accommodation on site?

Yes. Accommodation for riding holidays is provided on site at the ranch as part of the overall experience. Lodging is intentionally limited, quiet and closely integrated with the daily rhythm of the horses, riding and estate life.

What is your cancellation or change policy?

Terms vary by booking type. We share them clearly before confirmation and encourage early communication if plans change.

Packing and practicalities

What to bring, and how weather affects the day.

What should I wear and bring for the rides?

Functional, breathable clothing, boots with a small heel, sun protection and personal medical items. Bring your own helmet if you prefer.

What about weather, heat and rain?

We plan rides around heat and footing, not convenience. Heavy rain or unsafe ground may mean rescheduling or cancellation.

Still Unsure?

Ask before you book.

If your question concerns riding suitability, group composition, weather, accommodation or horse welfare, contact the ranch before submitting final plans.
